Every year the Oliver Fire Department puts on a Cash Raffle. This event originally
started out as a Car Raffle but as the price of cars escalated it became
impossible to get a prize worthy car in the $10,000.00 price range so a change
was made to what is now a Cash Raffle.
Approximately $8,000.00 dollars is raised form this event a direct savings
to the tax payers. The money is spent on equipment and training, items that
would normally have to be put in the budget. It has helped pay for the original
Jaws of Life system, new radios, ropes for rope rescue, equipment for water
rescue, and the first low level strainer, a device that allows us get 90%
of the water out of a portable tank. It also has paid for a number of training
sessions and other equipment to numerous to mention.
This year Cash Raffle will be held on Saturday Nov. 7. Prizes will include
Large Screen LCD TV, 32 gig iPod Touch, Nintendo Wii, Stihl Chainsaw, Bar
Fridge, Coleman Portable Barbeque, Ducks Unlimited Picture, 4 Rounds of Golf,
18 Volt Dewalt Drill and of course the Grand Prize of $10,000.00.
