Events of the Oliver Fire Department
|
|
The Oliver Fire Department is busy throughout the year with a call volume
averaging 140 calls a year even though we are not first responders. We host
a number of department and community functions, and support other community
organization with their events.
For the last few years we have helped with the Polar Bear Dip on New Years
day, supplying a portable tank when Tuc El Nuit Lake is frozen over and our
presence in the local parade in the summer is always an event.
We haul Santa on our Old Chev at Christmas and the old truck
makes nightly rounds playing Christmas Carols and handing out candy canes
to the kids.
This year we were involved in a number of events, like the Street Hockey
game with Town Council, to help support the Knelson family in there
time of need. At Doug’s passing the department was very involved in funeral
ceremonies.

We put on a wives appreciation night for firemen’s wives, who do so much to
support all the activities the department is involved with.
Every November we put on Cash Raffle to raise funds for training and equipment.
The remainder of this year and 2010 will be very busy with preparations for The B.C. Volunteer Firefighter’s Spring Training Seminar.
